How to clean a Mattress naturally?

With constant exposure to air, moisture, temperature fluctuations, dust, and allergens, your mattresses should be cleaned at least once in a while. If you can resort to a professional cleaning service, it would be great. But there are some simple and easy hacks to clean a mattress. Let’s look into them without any further ado.

Wash the sheets!

Before you move to the mattress cleaning, start with removing your sheets and the bedding. Wash them in hot water as it helps kill the dust mites, if any. Soak in your pillows too! Wash and dry them. Refer and double-check your pillow care labels for cleansing.

Vacuum the mattress!

By using the upholstery attachment, vacuum your mattress thoroughly without leaving any corner. Make sure you take narrow and overlapping paths. Flip the mattress and vacuum the other side, with special attention to the sides.

Get rid of the stains!

Stains are not only displeasing to the eyes but are also unhygienic. The viable option will be to spot-clean it. It doesn’t mean you wash your mattress. Some types like foam mattresses should not be soaked in water, which can further spread mould and mildew. So, what can you do instead to remove stains from mattress? Grab these cleaning supplies from your pantry.

  • Hydrogen Peroxide
  • Vinegar
  • Dishwashing liquid

There are two ways to make your own DIY cleaning solution. Firstly, mix equal parts of Hydrogen Peroxide and water. Alternatively, you can mix your regular dishwashing soap with water. To clean a mattress, take a damp cloth and pat the stain. Continue blotting until the stain lifts. After this, you can use the DIY mixture to remove the tough stains. Keep in mind not to go overboard with the mixture! This works well for mainly all kinds of stains like blood, sweat, urine, etc. However, adding some vinegar can ease the cleaning process for the food spots.

It’s time to deodorise

It would be great if you could let your mattress soak in the sunshine for a couple of hours. If that is out of your radar, baking soda is ultimately the next best thing. Sprinkle some baking soda on your mattress and let it penetrate the top layer where your body’s sweat, oil, and odour usually sit. Use a scrub brush and gently rub the powder until it seeps well. Wait patiently until it deodorises the moisture and material. The longer you leave the baking soda powder, the better it is for your mattress.

Vacuum Again!

Remember to vacuum again once the baking soda has worked its magic.

Channelize your energy and focus on every detail.

Flip the mattress!

Cleaning a mattress can be tiresome. If you don’t want to clean a mattress every once in a while, consider flipping it. Flipping can help reduce the damage to one side of the mattress by evening out the indentation. Moreover, the accumulation of sweat, pet dander, and dust will not get worse. That sounds like a relief, right? Ideally, it is recommended to flip your mattress once every six months.

Follow these simple techniques to clean a mattress. Just like washing your sheets and sanitising your bedroom, cleaning a mattress is just as important!
